• Formerly, the Foreign Minister of Portugal, the Portuguese Permanent Representative to the United Nations; President of the UN Security Council and High Representative of the Security Council for elections in Côte d'Ivoire.
  
• Currently, a member of the Board of the Angolan Bank BPA (Banco Privado do Atlântico), a member of the Supervisory Board of the Portuguese Bank BCP (Banco Comercial Português) Millennium and a member of the Scientific Council of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
